This is our first week back after the Christmas holidays and we have now finished our projects. My project is basically finished, but I just need to find a website where I can download a swimming pool and a football pitch as they are the only things I am missing from my project. I also want to find new materials for my building because I don’t like the current colour. This week we have been print screening pictures of section and elevations and uploading them to our websites. I have got the pictures I want, but I just need to upload them. Also a woman called Caroline who worked for Laing O’Rourke came in and gave us a presentation about what they do and I found quite boring. I was only supposed to be 10 minutes but ended up taking 40. However, she showed us a short clip about what they are going to do with a place in Edinburgh, which I found interesting.

On Thursday we had our mock for DEC which I found really hard. I had no idea how to answer all of the questions and I think I have failed, however, sir told us that we shouldn’t know it and not to revise. We will be covering everything that will be on the mock after we finish buildings in unit 3. Other than that I have been working on my Revit just making sure the first part of my building is finished and I think it looks good. I now need to add in some heating and plumbing and then I will be able to move onto working on my landscape and then I will be close to finishing.
The schedule of accommodation was the only part i was behind on so i spent most of my lessons going through it making sure it was good enough. I used a booklet we got a while ago from a worker from Laing O'Rourke which gave us prices of different rooms and how much we needed to take off from our area which is Manchester. I calculated the size of each room and the price for it for each meter squared and times it together to see how much it costs fro a room. To calculate the cost of my entire building i added it all together.
I forgot to do my other how am I doings, but they were all just either working on my Revit model or making some slight changes to my website. For example, my Revit pictures weren't all over 100 words so I went back onto power point and added quite a lot to all of them. This week I have continued to work on my revit model and my site. I also realised I messed up with my sustainability advert, I missed out a couple of slides so I went back and fixed it. Also I have started to make my precedents bubble diagram which I lost a while ago, I haven’t finished, so during our week of I will finish it. Also I am going to create a bubble diagram to show my building layout. I have already created one, but, like the other one; I have lost it and was for my old building idea so it wouldn’t work.
This week I have mainly worked on getting my update up-to-scratch. I have finally added in my building print screens; I used a slide show to show my buildings progress because its easier to see everything and I think it looks a lot better. Today, I added in my sustainability advert. I was struggling because I couldn’t find away to do it, so I print screened all the slides, used a slide show and put it on a timer.
On Wednesday, I gave up my lunch and came back for people to film us. I wasn’t interviewed, but I am fine with that because I would have felt very awkward. The Laing O'Rourke owner came in and looked at my building. He told me I should add in a medical and physio practice because most new sports facilities have them. I was thinking of putting on top of my sports hall because I don’t know what to do with that space, but I will need to research into it. Unfortunately, I am back in school in my final year. I have been back for a couple of weeks, but I have forgotten to do my “how am I doings” so I am just going to put in this one. They are basically the same anyway; they are all about my project and our Ugandan project.
The only new thing is that I have changed my website from google sites to weebly which I think is a better platform and easier to use. I have finished bringing everything over yet, but it’s not far off. I still need to add in my revit pictures, but I don’t know how to so I will figure out how to and do it next week. My own project is coming along well, I have almost finished my cafeteria, but I need to finish the kitchen. The kitchen is taking a while because I can’t find everything I need on revit city so I have changed some and made it into the thing I need. For example I took normal cupboards from revit city and cut a hole in it so I can put a sink in. Also, I have started to add in my staff room which is quite large so I need to make it smaller. I couldn’t find a desk with things like a kettle on so, like the sink, I took one that looked nice added on the things I needed. Next week I will be print screening my project and adding it into my PowerPoint for my website. The Ugandan project isn’t going well. Two of our members have continued to argue about the design, so we have fallen behind the other group. I would like to go far in this project, but I highly doubt we will. Hopefully, next time we work on it we can work well as a team and come up with a good idea. However, if it doesn't work out then I will consider leaving and working on my own project. This is the final week of year 10 and this year I think I have achieved a lot. My building is coming on well at a steady pace and if my brother lets download Revit on his computer I will be able to finish my building over the summer holiday. This will work out well because I will be able to focus on my exams at the end of year 11. This week I have continued with my project and it is looking good. On Wednesday some people came in and we showed them our work. They were very impressed with us and we asked many questions.
Sir has tried to get us some work experience so hopefully I will get get a call during the holidays telling me I have it. This will look good on my CV when I'm applying for collage or even an apprenticeship. I missed last weeks "how am I doing" so I am going to add it into this weeks. All we did last week was work on our Revit models. I missed a couple of days because I was ill but I didn't fall behind. Just like last week we worked on our buildings again. However, on Wednesday we worked in our groups for the Ugandan School Project. I worked with one of my class mates Dillon to produce the bubble diagram for the model. It took us a while, but we finally came up with a good layout. Next week I am going to go through each of my Revit files, print screen what I have done, insert them onto my website and write about them because I am quite far behind on that, but it shouldn't take too long to catch up.
This week we have continued with our Revit models. Sir has been off all week so we haven't been able to do anything else other than work on our models. Two more people have come in to help us with it, but I haven't been doing anything that I have been struggling with. However, I explained to one of them what we have to be building and why. I haven't made a lot of progress because I have just been finishing a few bits off on my first floor. Therefor next week I need to work faster to finish the first part of my project.
This week I have continued with my Revit model. Someone else from Laing O'Raurke came in to help us with our buildings. I have been struggling with putting a curved roof on my building so he helped me. It was easier than I thought. I really like my building now and it looks really good. All I need to do is put in windows, doors, and furnish the upstairs. Then I will move on to my next part of the project. However, I don't know what to do for my building materials.
