Manchester
Manchester is a city in the North West of England with a population of 514,417 people. It is UK's second most populated urban area. The recorded history of Manchester began with the civilian settlement linked with the Roman fort of Mamucium, which was established around 79 AD on a sandstone bluff near the rivers Medlock and Irwell. Manchester is mainly flat, it has no large hills.
In Manchester there are many different styles of architect. Manchester was created in the Industrial Revaluation and is known as "The First Modern". Manchester is famous for warehouses, railway viaducts, cotton mills and canals. Bridge water canal is one of the most used to transport many different things. The Industrial Revolution made Manchester a very wealthy place, but that money was mostly spent on houses for the population.
Beetham Tower also known as Hilton tower is the tallest building in Manchester and it was built in 2006. It is 168 meters (551ft) with 47 stories. It was named after its developers, Beetham organisation and was designed by Ian Simpson. Ian didn’t want to be paid in money; He wanted the top floors to be one big flat so he could live in it. The Hilton tower was built in a small plot of land at the top of Deansgate.
Manchester is known for the two rivalries between United and City. United’s home ground is placed in Trafford at the famous ground, Old Trafford. It can sit a whopping 75,635 people. Old Trafford or, The Theatre of Dreams, was designed by a Scottish architect, Archibald Leitch. City’s home ground is Etihad Stadium that can only seat 46,708 people. However, the capacity will increase to 60,000 in august 2015.
