Project Report
A project report is a written document that explains everything you have done, to do with your project, your plan, any complications you had and how you would get around it. I have used my “How am I doing?” blogs to write this as I couldn't remember back to the start. Also, everything I needed was in them so there was no point writing it out again
This week I have created a community blog, so anyone with concerns or ideas about my project can tell I and I can make it better for everyone. Also, I have created a survey so I can have a sense on what people are looking for in my building and I can make it suitable for everyone. Today, I created a business so I can get employed and anyone can contact me.
This week we have started to design flour floor plan. We have to create three floor plans and decide which one we like the most and use that design for our building. I am finding it hard to think of some designs to look good and maximise space due to my site not being a normal shape. I have finished my first design and I have started my second. At the moment I think I prefer the second one.
Today we watched an episode of grand designs to get an idea of how to maximise space. It was an episode of a couple who bought an old flat in London with a huge basement and they spent millions on restoring it. It has given me some ideas on how to use a basement in my building.
On Monday we were told that we had an interview to see who were going to Glasgow to present what we have done and how much we have enjoyed DEC. To prepare, I made some modifications to my website to get ready for my interview. The interview was on Wednesday and we missed most of the lesson for it. There were six of us who wanted to go and there were only five places. I was the last to go and at the start I was quite calm and I knew what I was going to say, but when I began I forgot what I was going to say and gradually became more and more nervous. Unfortunately, I wasn't picked, but I was expecting it. Now I know that i need to practice more for next time. Today, another visitor came in and he was on time unlike the last one.
This week I have changed my website to suite my idea. I have almost finished, I just need to create a new spider diagram and insert it into precedents, however, I am running out of time in lesson so that is something to do over the holidays. It won’t be hard to do I just need to find a website that will let me create one for free.
I am happy I have changed my building idea, but I have fallen behind in the Revit work. Most of my peers have done their plans added in windows and doors and even some have started adding in furniture. I can't work on that at home as I don’t have Revit Autodesk, so when I come back after the Holidays I will have to work very hard to catch up. I do feel like I can do it though.
The competition came through and Mr McDonagh told us on the first day. We have to design a school for the children of Uganda. However, it has to be their home. We are only allowed to use materials that are accessible in Uganda, but it has to last for a long time. We have to do it in groups up to 10. At the start we were allowed to pick our groups. I was with my friends, Tom, Kieran and Ben. However due to other people not being able to decide Sir randomly picked two teams of seven. I think I have a good team, and I think we will do well. After the teams were decided we then picked jobs we had to do. I wanted to design something and I was happy when my jobs were furnishing and landscape designing.
I have made a lot of progress and almost finished the main part of my building which includes; the gym, class rooms, sports hall and reception. I have finished the rooms and I have started to add in the furniture. Steve, a digital engineer for Laing O'Rourke, came in today to help us with our project. He helped me a bit with my building and he told us about his job. Next week I am going to try and finish my first part and move on to the next which is my cafeteria.
The only new thing is that I have changed my website from Google sites to weebly which I think is a better platform and easier to use. I have finished bringing everything over yet, but it’s not far off. I still need to add in my Revit pictures, but I don’t know how to so I will figure out how to and do it next week. My own project is coming along well, I have almost finished my cafeteria, but I need to finish the kitchen. The kitchen is taking a while because I can’t find everything I need on Revit city so I have changed some and made it into the thing I need. For example I took normal cupboards from Revit city and cut a hole in it so I can put a sink in. Also, I have started to add in my staff room which is quite large so I need to make it smaller. I couldn't find a desk with things like a kettle on so, like the sink, I took one that looked nice added on the things I needed. Next week I will be print screening my project and adding it into my Power-point for my website.
The Ugandan project isn't going well. Two of our members have continued to argue about the design, so we have fallen behind the other group. So, we decided that there was no point carrying on with it so we left the group and focus on our coursework. I would have liked to have done well, but I would prefer to work on my coursework anyway.
